Sheboygan, WI, March 19, 2014.- For the second consecutive year, Andean Naturals, Inc., the leading US importer of quinoa, has been named a Best for the World B Corporation company. Created by the non-profit B Lab, the B Corp Best for the World list honors businesses that earn an overall score in the top 10 percent of all Certified B Corporations on the B Impact Assessment, a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation of a company’s impact on its workers, its community and the environment. Andean Naturals was one of 92 micro, small and mid-sized businesses to be recognized this year.
“It is a great honor to be part of this progressive group of companies. We hope that soon more companies will start down the path of measuring success on more than just financial metrics,” Sergio Nuñez de Arco, Quinoa Specialist and Founding Partner of Andean Naturals, said. “Consumers are seeking to learn more about how the products they purchase impact the environment and society in general. Businesses have to adapt to this changing environment.”
Andean Naturals is a major supporter of sustainable, organic quinoa production in Bolivia. In 2014, the company is working with 21 farmers’ associations and nearly 700 organic-producing families directly (4.500 indirectly). At the center of this collaboration is a sustainable-production project that includes social, environmental and financial components, operated with assistance respectively from Fair Trade USA (farmer association structures, women’s empowerment and Fair Trade certification), the Kellogg Company (soil health program) and Root Capital (financial literacy program and access to credit for farmer associations).
